:::: About us ::::
Family-run for over 60 years
The guest house has been in the family's hands for three generations and the beautiful mountains of St. Christina, as well as the history and tradition of the family, make this place unique.
The origin of our house
The Heritage House Margherita has an eventful history. In 1955 Luis Comploj and Stefania Demetz (Fanny) got married. Luis was the youngest of 12 children of the Comploj Family from St. Christina and Fanny was the daughter of the famous entrepreneur and pioneer Leo Demetz and cousin of the well-known director Luis Trenker. In 1956 Luis and his brother Franz built the house, which was first used as a workshop for wood carvings and then as an office for the skiing world championships in 1970. It was later converted into a café and souvenir store, which Fanny ran with passion.
The foundation of the Margherita
Over time, the house was transformed into cozy vacation apartments and tourism in Val Gardena began flourishing. In 1987, Margherita, the daughter of Luis and Fanny, married Viktor Senoner, a former ski racer and artist. After Fanny's early death in 1990, Margherita took over the management of the house.
The development until today
In 2017 the house was passed to the next generation. Margherita’s and Victor’s son Gabriel lives here with his family. The house has been renovated and modernized to fulfill the newest standards maintaining its traditional charm. Here you can enjoy the wonderful Val Gardena and Family Senoner’s hospitality. Our small in-house museum offers a great insight into the long family tradition and Ladin culture.
Val Gardena ////// A place of natural and cultural heritage
Val Gardena’s culture and tradition are famous all over the world. The long tradition of wood carving art, the traditional costumes and the Ladin language are a vivid part of our culture. Like most families with roots in Val Gardena, we also grew up with the Ladin language, one of the oldest in the Alps.

Ladin for beginners
Quick Ladin crash course
The Ladin language is a Rhaeto-Romance language and one of the three main languages of the province of Bolzano. The language is spoken in two South Tyrolean valleys: Val Gardena and Val Badia. We have prepared a few expressions for daily usage, so you can learn a few words or sentences of this unique language. Immerse yourself in our culture!
Hello, in Ladin, as in the rest of South Tyrol, simply ‘Hoi’. In the morning, we greet each other with ‘Bon di!’
If you meet in the evening, you say ‘Bona sëira!’. A good night is wished in Ladin with ‘Bona nuet’.
And we look forward to this greeting on your departure: ‘Assudëi!’
It’s easy: “Prëibel“ means “please” and “ de gra” means “thank you”.
“Me desplej” means “I’m sorry”.
| Artejan stands for Artist | Rojula da Mont stands for Alpine Rose| Rojula stands for Rose | Mont stands for Alp | Surëdl stands for Sun| Coa stands for Nest |
“How are you?” „Co te vala pa?“
“I’m fine, thanks.” „La me va bona, de gra.“
“Can you help me?” „Pudëis’a me judé?“
“Where is the nearest restaurant?” „Ulà ie pa la proscima ustaria?“
“How much does this cost?" „Tant costa pa chësc?“
“Here in Val Gardena, it’s beautiful!” „Tlo te Gherdëina iel tan bel!“
